Three Rivers: Exploring communities' connectedness to nature
Overview
In collaboration with The National Trust, Lestari embarked on a project aimed at developing a comprehensive understanding of nature connectedness among the communities surrounding the Killerton Estate in South Devon.
This initiative involved establishing a social science research baseline and creating a robust programme for long-term monitoring of attitudinal and behavioural changes. The project’s primary objectives were to establish a baseline for nature connection and pro-nature behaviour, develop a monitoring programme, and explore co-design opportunities with the community members.
A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining online surveys, interviews, and focus groups to gather comprehensive insights from across several communities. The results of the research will contribute to the development phase of the Three Rivers Landscape Recovery Scheme which aims to restore nature and the natural landscape at Killerton, with a focus on improving habitats on the 2,500 hectare estate, ensuring that the land achieves High Nature Status and Priority Habitat.
