Outdoor Learning in Worcestershire
Worcestershire
Lestari provided a set of key observations arising from evaluation of outdoor learning provision within primary schools in Worcestershire, alongside a set of recommendations to enhance these efforts in line with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust's (WWT) strategic goals for 2023-2030.
Outdoor Learning in Worcestershire
Overview
Lestari worked alongside Worcestershire Wildlife Trust to undertake evaluation of current outdoor learning provision within primary schools across the county, and to make recommendations for the Wildlife Trust to better support outdoor learning to flourish in future. The resulting recommendations were taken forward by the Trust, including the recruitment of a schools-facing member of staff to develop outdoor learning within primary provision.
The overarching aim of this work was to support WWT’s vision of achieving a “Wilder Worcestershire” by integrating nature into everyday education and fostering a deeper connection between young people and the natural environment.
The recommendations align with WWT’s Strategy 2023 – 2030, by supporting nature recovery at a school scale; enabling and encouraging young people to know, care for and act on behalf of nature; and introducing ways for schools to become more competent and skilled in delivering outdoor sessions where children learn in, about and for nature.
